about

In celebration of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s 80th birthday on 6 July 2015, the Tashi Lhunpo Monks are releasing a digital single – HH the Dalai Lama Long Life Prayer (Gyalwa Rinpoche Shab-ten Sol-dep).

This prayer requests HH the Dalai Lama to take a long life for the benefit of all sentient beings.

The exclusive Bandcamp download bundle includes the single along with a complete set of the Monks’ custom Ringtones for iPhone/Android, designed for use as ring and alert tones on compatible devices.

The Tashi Lhunpo Monks wish His Holiness a very happy birthday.

His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama was born in Taktser, eastern Tibet, on 6th July 1935. At the age of two he was recognised as the reincarnation of the late 13th Dalai Lama, and was enthroned in Lhasa in 1940. After 18 years he completed his study of Buddhist philosophy, obtaining the Geshe Lharampa degree. This is the highest category of degree, and is awarded by the abbot following dialectical examination in all the topics covered in the curriculum, and tests the ability and knowledge of the student. However, on 17th November 1950, when he was still only 15 years old, he was obliged to assume full temporal responsibility for his country owing to the advancing Chinese occupation of Tibet. In March 1959, he left Lhasa and crossed the Himalayas into exile in India.

Since 1959 His Holiness has campaigned ceaselessly for the peaceful return of Tibet to independence, for which he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.

The eight auspicious Ringtones feature traditional instruments from the monastic orchestra including the great Dungchen or long horns, Khangling - human thigh bone trumpets, drums made from human skulls and ancient Conch shells from Tibet (whose sound is believed to banish evil spirits, scare away poisonous creatures and avert hailstorms).

The Ringtones were specially recorded on location at Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in Bylakuppe, southern India - home to the Monks since 1972 following their exile from Chinese-occupied Tibet.

Please check which audio format your Smartphone can use as custom Ringtones before purchasing from this site.

Most Smartphone handsets will be able to play MP3 files, however if you're an Apple user you'll need .m4r files and a device running iOS5 and above to be able to experience the path to smart phone/tablet enlightenment.

The Apple compatible .m4r files are included as bonus files in this download bundle from Bandcamp.
